HOW TO SEND A

Triad Highland Games

GREETING  CARD

Sending a card is easy, Just follow the instructions at each step along the way. I also want to let you know that the cards are stored in a non-indexed directory so only you and the recipient will know how to find the card. This directory is also pretty secure from spammers, so send your card knowing you will not end up on any junk list.

After you have completed the card, you will be shown a preview. If you do not like your card, you may edit it and then send it, or just cancel the request. The recipient will receive e-mail advising where to find the card.

STEP #1: PICK A PICTURE
Please select a picture from the list below using the little Radio Button selector. You may only pick one picture per card. If you want to see a full size image of a picture, just click on it. You might want to do that before filling in any information on this page, just so you do not risk losing your work after returning from viewing the image.

Calling of the Clans
Once the Highland Clans of Scotland were raised to go to war or react to emergencies by 'The Calling of the Clans'. The local head of the 'Chief" Clan would give that order to gather the various Clans under his authority together. This call was made mainly to go to war.  The various Clans came from miles around each carrying a torch which the Chief of that Clan joining would announce his joining and the number of men he had with him and then ending his announcement with "CLAN ****** IS HERE!!!".

A good many of the Highland Games in America start their Games the night before with a "CALLING". Here is a picture of the torches carried by the various Clans at the Triad Highland Games.

Scottish American Military Society

Post 1775

Named after the Scottish Highlander, Col. Patrick Ferguson, leader of the British forces at Kings Mountain, SC where he was defeated by another Scot, Col. William Campbell, he was none the less a Highlander. Post 1775 is the only S.A.M.S. Post in the US named after a British commander. Post 1775 is one of the largest S.A.M.S. Post in America with one of the most active, largest, and colorful Color Guards in the Scottish American Military Society.
Clan Row

Triad Highland Games 2002

Many Clans Societies are represented at the Highland Games. This is just a small example of 'Clan Row'. Most Games in Scotland don't feature much of this and it seems that many Clans at Highland Games are mainly a North American phenomenon. The Societies and Clans gather at these Highland Games and tell of their Clans history, tartans, customs, and gain new members.
The Massed Bands

Triad Highland Games, 2002

Pipe and Drums Bands mass and perform together under the direction of one Drum Major. There is nothing like hearing the 'Massed Bands' performing.

Individual Pipe Bands perform all through the day at Highland Games. Here Deep River Pipe and Drums at the Triad Highland Games in North Carolina, USA give the audience a close look at their group.

Turning the Caber

Many feats of strength are evident at the Highland Games. Here a competitor 'turns the caber'. One of many sports originating in Scotland.
