The Triad Highland Games is a
gift from Scottish Clans across America to the
people of the North Carolina Triad.
It is the
goal of the Triad Highland Games, Inc. to help
educate North Carolinians about the
contributions that people of Scottish descent have
made to our state’s heritage.
Our educational desire is to
share:
1.
The general areas of surnames.
2.
How Scottish history and the Games tradition
affected each other.
3.
The history of the events that comprise the
Games (clachneart, hammer throw, weight throw for
distance, weight throw for height, sheaf toss,
turning the caber, wrestling, tug-o-war, etc.).
4.
The legacy of Scottish music through song,
bagpipe, drum, harp, fiddle, etc.
5.
A “taste” of Scotland with traditional foods
(Scottish eggs, bridies, scone, shortbread, etc.).
6.
Scottish weapons (battle-axe, long bow,
darts, lochaber axe, claymor, mace, hammer,
bagpipes, etc.).
7.
Scottish dancing (Sword dance, Highland
Fling, Seann Triubhas, Half Tulloch, etc.).
8.
Traditional Scottish livelihood (border
collies, sheep, Galloway cattle, weaving,
blacksmithing, etc.)
9.
Scotland’s military story and regiments (78th
Frasers, 42nd Royal Highlanders, etc.).
10.
Recreational sports such as rugby.
11.
The tartans, crests, mottoes, and histories
of Scotland’s many clans and families.
In addition to education,
our desire is to offer a delightful day of
entertainment suitable for the entire family. We
extend a warm welcome to all!
